Nadir and his fiery 7-piece funk band heat up The Fathead Stage at 4:30pm on Saturday, February 9 at Motown Winter Blast, a signature wintertime festival in downtown Detroit. Bring the whole family down for free ice skating and snowshoeing, delicious foods from Detroit’s best restaurants, and fantastic sounds from members of the iconic Detroit music scene. Bundle up and get ready to have a great time!

There’s an irony,or perhaps a simple contradiction, in the fact that the word “nadir” refers to the lowest point reached by a celestial body, and yet the man who bears that name (pronounced NAY-deer) is an incredibly positive, upbeat and enthusiastic soul. On the day of our interview, which takes place at MTtowers, Nadir bounds in like a puppy in a park, all smiles and overt warmth. It’s fucking freezing outside, so his naturally emitted merriment is particularly welcome.

That joy for life is nothing new, according to the man himself. At just 18 months old, Nadir Omowale was belting out the Beatles’ “Hey Jude” in the back yard, and that was only the beginning.

Eleven-time Detroit Music Award winner Nadir Omowale presents Nadir’s Electric Lounge: A Multimedia Funk Experience and live concert recording on Saturday, February 2 at NextWave Media Lab, 950 Stephenson Highway in Troy. Showtime is at 8:00pm featuring an incendiary live set by Nadir’s seven-piece band –and energizing party rhythms from DJ Ray 7 of Underground Resistance. Tickets for the 21 and older event are $10 in advance at Nadir-Music.com and $15 at the door.
