The Book of Jonah Album Release Party - Friday, October 5 at PJ's Lager HouseEleven-time Detroit Music Award winner Nadir celebrates the release of his third full-length album, The Book of Jonah, with a special live performance and party on Friday, October 5 at PJ’s Lager House, 1254 Michigan Avenue in Detroit.

Showtime is 10pm and features Nadir’s seven-piece funk-rock band, with sets by Detroit rock hip-hop quartet Final Cue, plus DJ Psycho of the Detroit Techno Militia. The evening will be hosted by the lovely Emily Rogers of Detroit Music TV LIVE. Admission is $5.00.

And never fear if you’re concerned about the driving distance. Performances at PJ’s Lager House are streamed live at LiveDetroit.TV. Tune in and join the party!

Since its release in mid-August, The Book of Jonah has earned rave reviews from critics and fans alike.

Are you hip to the Detroit rock scene? From an outsider’s perspective it can amaze, huh?

Having said that, the scene’s always been pretty segregated, and you never see too many black faces on local indie or rock show bills, just as it’s rare to see many white kids on local rap shows. But, the organizers of the Cosmic Slop Festival, spearheaded by one Deekah Wyatt, aim to put Detroit’s black rock scene (yes, Detroit’s black rock scene) on a pedestal by kick-starting the area’s first annual Afro-rock concert fest.

EAPro artist emcee Khary WAE Frazier brings activism to his music, but don’t say he’s just ‘pro-black’

“Working at Excellence” once defined the initials in Khary “WAE” Frazier’s name. He used to tell folks this meaning more often back when he simply called himself “WAE.” And even though this worldview could be called “inspirational,” he admits that, in the world of hip-hop, it can get corny.

Nowadays, he just lives the philosophy. It describes the way Frazier approaches his song lyrics and music. And the acronym, he now says, connotes his tendency to approach his music “eight ways.” Get it? WAE? “Way”?

All puns aside, Frazier — Detroit’s answer to a ’90s-era Ice Cube — is raw enough for the streets but thoughtful enough for fans of substantive hip-hop music.
